This Day in Top 40 History: November 2

On November 2, 1999, Foo Fighters released their third studio album, *There Is Nothing Left To Lose*. This album featured the hit single “Learn to Fly” and marked the debut of their new drummer, Taylor Hawkins, who replaced William Goldsmith.

November 2 has seen many significant moments in music history. In 1967, Cream released their second album, *Disraeli Gears*, which reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Two years later, Creedence Clearwater Revival dropped *Willy and the Poor Boys*, featuring the iconic track “Fortunate Son,” which peaked at No. 3.

Fast forward to 2019, and Lewis Capaldi hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Someone You Loved,” marking a powerful start to his career.

This date has also been a time for artists to celebrate major achievements. In 1989, Madonna was named Artist of the Decade by Musician magazine, boasting over 44 No. 1 singles worldwide. In 2001, Fatboy Slim and Gorillaz each won three Billboard Music Awards for their hit videos. Shakira took home four Latin GRAMMY Awards in 2006, including Record of the Year for “La Tortura.” By 2016, Taylor Swift was recognized as the highest-paid woman in music by Forbes, earning more than double her closest competitor, Adele.

Notable recordings also took place on November 2. In 2015, Adele returned from her three-year break with *Adele at the BBC*, featuring live performances from her album *25*. In 2018, the biopic *Bohemian Rhapsody* premiered, bringing the soundtrack back to the Billboard Hot 100.

With so many memorable moments, why not listen to an old favorite like “Someone You Loved” today?
