If you’re planning to cover Kings of Leon’s “Sex on Fire,” you might want to keep it upbeat. Frontman Caleb Followill recently shared that he prefers the song’s original, faster tempo. He mentioned on a podcast that when he hears slower versions, he feels the lyrics lose their edge. “It’s supposed to be dirty and raunchy and quick,” he said. “Then the song is done.”
Interestingly, Followill wasn’t even a fan of their own version at first. He wanted to leave “Sex on Fire” off their album, Only by the Night, because he worried it would sound too much like a pop song. “Thank goodness I got outvoted on that,” he added. Now, “Sex on Fire” is one of Kings of Leon’s biggest hits and always gets a great reaction at live shows. Followill joked, “We can play it at a funeral and the corpse would sit up.”
In other news, Kings of Leon just released a new EP titled EP #2, which follows their upcoming album, Can We Please Have Fun, set for 2024. They also collaborated with country star Zach Bryan on two tracks in between. Keep an eye out for more updates from the band!
