This Day in Top 40 History: November 13

On November 13, 2020, Harry Styles made history as the first solo male artist to appear on the cover of American Vogue. Wearing a Gucci dress, he sparked discussions about masculinity in music and joined other artists who use fashion as a form of expression. Styles is known for hits like “As It Was,” “Sign of the Times,” and “Adore You.” As a former member of One Direction, he also had multiple Top 40 hits, including “Best Song Ever” and “Drag Me Down.”

November 13 has seen many significant moments in music history. In 1965, The Four Tops released their second album, featuring the hit “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch),” which topped the Billboard Hot 100. Other tracks like “Something About You” and “It’s the Same Old Song” also made the charts.

In 2015, Justin Bieber released his album Purpose, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It included hits like “What Do You Mean?,” “Love Yourself,” and “Sorry.” His collaboration with Diplo and Skrillex, “Where Are Ü Now,” reached No. 8 and won him a GRAMMY in 2016.

In 2020, Chris Stapleton’s album Starting Over debuted at No. 1 on the Country Albums chart and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. The title track reached No. 25 on the Hot 100.

Notable performances on this date include Post Malone’s concert in 2022 at the Kia Forum and Billie Eilish’s show in Chicago in 2024. Sadly, the music world also lost Leon Russell on November 13, 2016, at the age of 74.
