Pizzeria Beddia in Philadelphia has been awarded the Bib Gourmand by the MICHELIN Guide. This announcement was made on Tuesday, Nov. 18, as part of the Northeast Cities Guide. It’s a big deal because it’s the first time restaurants in Philadelphia have received this honor from the famous culinary guide.
Pizzeria Beddia is now among over 3,400 Bib Gourmand restaurants worldwide, joining nine other Philly spots recognized this year. Located at 1313 N. Lee St. in Fishtown, Beddia is famous for its delicious pizza and wine pairings, plus a unique two-hour hoagie-focused private dining experience.
Joe Beddia, who graduated from Hempfield High School in Lancaster County, opened Pizzeria Beddia in 2013. It started as a cash-only place with no seating and just two employees. Since then, it has grown into a larger, card-friendly restaurant. In 2015, Bon Appétit named it the best pizza in the country, and in 2019, TIME magazine included it in its “World’s Greatest Places” list.
Beddia didn’t have a culinary background before starting his pizza journey. He wanted to put a fresh spin on traditional pizza. He said, “If you’re going to do the same thing all the time, how can it still be unique and interesting?” Pizzeria Beddia is definitely a must-visit for pizza lovers!
