Kirk Hammett’s Gibson SG Custom guitar, used during Metallica’s Back to the Beginning concert, has sold for an impressive $76,800 at auction. This price far exceeded the estimated value of $4,000 to $6,000.
Kirk played this guitar during a cover of Black Sabbath’s “Hole in the Sky” at the concert on July 5. The event ended with a performance by the original Black Sabbath lineup: Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. This concert was announced as Ozzy’s final live performance, and sadly, he passed away just over two weeks later on July 22.
The guitar was part of Julien’s Auctions’ Played, Worn, & Torn sale, which featured other notable items, including the infamous safe from which the Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson sex tape was stolen. That safe was estimated to sell for $5,000 to $7,000 but went for only $2,560.
This auction highlights the lasting impact of iconic instruments and moments in music history. Fans of Metallica and Black Sabbath can appreciate the significance of these items and the memories they hold.
