Lynyrd Skynyrd Explores Possibility of Album Featuring 30 Unreleased Songs by Gary Rossington

Lynyrd Skynyrd has around 30 unheard songs co-written with the late guitarist Gary Rossington. The band is considering recording a new album using this material. In a recent interview, singer Johnny Van Zant and guitarist Rickey Medlocke shared their plans.

“We have songs that we wrote with Gary that we never recorded,” Van Zant said. After Rossington passed away in 2023, his wife brought the tapes to the band. Medlocke explained, “They brought us a load of tapes, and we discovered we had about 30 songs that Gary had worked on with Johnny and me.” He added that they could hear Rossington discussing lyrics on the tapes.

Once they reviewed the material, Van Zant and Medlocke began talking about the possibility of a new Lynyrd Skynyrd album featuring these songs. “Johnny and I started discussing the idea of doing another record that includes Gary’s songs,” Medlocke mentioned.

While Van Zant didn’t confirm a release, he expressed a desire to share the music with fans. “We’ll see what the future brings, but we would like to bring that to the forefront and get it to our fans,” he said.

This potential album would be the first from Lynyrd Skynyrd since 2012’s *Last Of A Dyin’ Breed*. They released a single in 2020, but a new album would be a significant addition to their discography.

Rossington was the last surviving founding member of the band when he passed away at age 71. Despite his death, the band continues to tour, and they plan to perform live starting July 23 in Atlanta, wrapping up on August 29 in Rogers, Arkansas. Fans might get a chance to hear some of this unreleased material during those shows.
