In 1945, the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team set an NCAA record by holding Arkansas State to just six points in a 75-6 victory. Two years later, rookie Howie Meeker of the Toronto Maple Leafs scored five goals in a single game. In 1955, Furman set a record with 154 points in an NCAA basketball game, while Georgia Tech ended Kentucky’s 130-game home winning streak.

Golf legend Jack Nicklaus made his professional debut at the Los Angeles Open in 1962, finishing tied for 50th. In 1977, Kerry Melville Reid won her only Grand Slam singles title. The following year, Jimmy Connors claimed his first ATP Masters Grand Prix title.

In 1980, goaltender Glenn Resch recorded his 20th career shutout as the Islanders beat the Canucks 3-0. The 1984 AFC Championship saw the Los Angeles Raiders defeat the Seattle Seahawks, while the Washington Redskins won the NFC Championship against the San Francisco 49ers.

In 2000, the Tennessee Titans pulled off the famous “Music City Miracle,” beating the Buffalo Bills 22-16 in the AFC Wild Card Playoff. Fast forward to 2013, when Steve Nash became the fifth NBA player to reach 10,000 career assists.
