Donald Trump shared a worrying image that appeared to hint at plans for expanding the United States into three foreign territories.
On Tuesday (January 20), the 79-year-old politician took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to share an edited photo of himself speaking to other world leaders.
The original image is from a meeting that he had with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and others in August 2025.
In it, he’s sitting at his desk with a posterboard behind him. In the edited image, the poster shows a map of North America, Central America and part of South America with the U.S. flag seemingly designating territories he would like to assume control over.

Specifically, the image shows Canada, Venezuela and Greenland as being part of the U.S.
He presented the image without any additional context. However, in a follow-up post, he also featured an edited image of himself holding the American flag alongside Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
In front of them, a sign designates Greenland as a U.S. territory established in 2026.
Trump has signaled that he wants to assume control of Greenland, currently a self-governing territory of Denmark, in recent weeks.
The president has also recently signaled interest in Canada, according to reporting by NBC News.
Meanwhile, Trump has previously referred to himself as the “acting president of Venezuela” in a Truth Social post after detaining the country’s president in early January.
Just Jared reached out to the White House for clarification about the image but did not hear back at the time of publication.
If you missed it, an alleged leaked text from the president to Norway’s Prime Minister linked his loss of the Nobel Peace Prize to his ambitions for Greenland.
