Phil Collins discusses his health struggles in a recent BBC interview.

Phil Collins recently shared an update on his health in a new interview. He has been struggling with nerve damage from a spinal injury he suffered in 2007. This condition forced him to perform seated during Genesis’ 2022 farewell tour, “The Last Domino,” and has left him unable to play the drums.

In his chat with Zoe Ball, Collins described his health issues as “an ongoing thing.” He mentioned that he has a live-in nurse to help him manage his medication. “I’ve had challenges with my knee,” he said, explaining that he has undergone five surgeries before finally finding one that worked. Now, he can walk with assistance, like crutches.

Collins also talked about his kidney problems, admitting, “I’d probably been drinking too much.” He clarified that he was never drunk, though he did have a few falls. He reflected on how everything seemed to go wrong at once, including catching COVID while in the hospital, which led to further complications.

Fans can catch Collins’ full interview in the fifth and final episode of the “Eras: Phil Collins” podcast, set to release on January 26. The interview will also air on BBC Two and iPlayer as a special titled “Phil Collins Eras: In Conversation,” debuting on January 31.
