Red Hot Chili Peppers release statement on Netflix documentary: ‘We were not involved creatively in any way.’

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have shared their thoughts on the upcoming Netflix documentary, *The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers*, set to premiere on March 20. The film will focus on the band’s early days and highlight the artistic vision of original guitarist Hillel Slovak, who passed away in 1988. It features interviews with frontman Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, and others who were close to Slovak.

In a statement on their Instagram, the band clarified that while they participated in interviews for the documentary, it is not a Red Hot Chili Peppers project. They wrote, “About a year ago, we were asked to be interviewed for a documentary about Hillel Slovak. He was a founding member of the group, a great guitarist, and friend. We agreed to be interviewed out of love and respect for Hillel and his memory.”

The band emphasized that the documentary is being marketed as a Red Hot Chili Peppers film, which is misleading. “We had nothing to do with it creatively. We have yet to make a Red Hot Chili Peppers documentary,” they stated.

The band hopes that the Netflix special will shine a light on Hillel Slovak and his contributions to music. They want fans to understand that the focus is on Slovak, not the band as a whole.
