M. Shadows joined Mr. Bungle on stage on February 3 at the Movistar Arena in Argentina. He performed “Retrovertigo” during the opening act’s set, marking the end of their Latin American tour. This was a special moment since the song hadn’t been played live since 2000. Mr. Bungle brought back the 1999 track at their show in Zapopan, Mexico, on January 15.
Avenged Sevenfold released their own version of “Retrovertigo” in 2017 as a bonus track. M. Shadows described it as one of Mr. Bungle’s softer songs, which they decided to turn into a heavier version. “We thought it’d be a fun twist to make a heavy version,” he said. He hopes this song encourages new fans to explore Mr. Bungle’s music.
M. Shadows also praised Mike Patton, the lead vocalist of Mr. Bungle. “Mike Patton is one of the greatest vocalists of our generation. It was daunting for me to sing one of his songs, but we had a great time recording this track,” he shared.
Initially, M. Shadows didn’t connect with Mr. Bungle’s 1999 album, *California*, but it eventually grew on him and became a game-changer in his eyes.
Avenged Sevenfold chose Mr. Bungle to open their shows in January and February. The two bands performed together at various points during the tour. Fans captured the moment and shared clips on social media, showing M. Shadows and Patton singing side by side during the set. It was a memorable night for both bands and their fans.
