Lamb of God is set to release their twelfth studio album, *Into Oblivion*, on March 13. The Richmond, Virginia metal band recorded the album’s vocals at Total Access in Redondo Beach, a studio known for hosting legendary punk and metal bands like Black Flag, Descendents, and Husker Du.
Frontman Randy Blythe shared that the main theme of the album focuses on the rapid decline of the social contract in America. He wrote about 75 to 80% of the lyrics. The band also includes guitarists Mark Morton and Willie Adler, bassist John Campbell, and drummer Art Cruz. This year, Randy Blythe turns 55. He began his music career in the punk scene during the 1980s and even published a fanzine in the 1990s.
Randy recorded all his vocals at Total Access, a studio he admires for its history with his favorite artists. One of the tracks, “El Vacio,” pays tribute to writer Hunter S. Thompson and Dave Brockie from Gwar, who passed away in 2014. Randy wrote some of the lyrics while sitting at Brockie’s grave in Hollywood Cemetery.
In addition to his music, Randy Blythe has authored two nonfiction books that made the bestseller list and is currently working on a vampire novel with social commentary. He believes that tough times often inspire great music.
Lamb of God will kick off a North American tour on March 17 at The Theater at MGM National Harbor in Maryland. To celebrate the album release, the band is hosting listening parties at over 140 record stores from March 13 to 15. Fans can stay updated on tour dates and pre-order the new album through the band’s official channels.
