Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready readies ‘my version of a rock opera’ via the ‘Farewell to Seasons’ project.

Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready is set to release a new graphic novel titled *Farewell to Seasons*, which takes place in the Seattle music scene of the ’80s and ’90s. The project will also feature a soundtrack of original music that McCready describes as “my version of a rock opera.”

“I wanted to challenge myself to write something meaningful,” McCready explains. “Not just a song, but a whole story.” Known for his iconic guitar work on tracks like “Even Flow” and “Alive,” this project allows McCready to showcase his singing as well. After taking four years of singing lessons, he feels ready to share his voice.

The soundtrack is presented as a work by David Williams, a character from the graphic novel. To bring this vision to life, McCready collaborated with several talented musicians, including Duff McKagan from Guns N’ Roses, Stefan Lessard from Dave Matthews Band, and drummers Mike Musburger, Chris Friel, and Nate Yaccino, along with vocalist Molly Sides. “It’s not tied to any specific genre,” he says. “I want it to fit the story’s mythology.”

*Farewell to Seasons* and its soundtrack are set to be released in October and are available for preorder now.

On the Pearl Jam front, McCready mentioned that the band is still searching for a new drummer after Matt Cameron left in 2025. “The four of us are ready to keep going, but we don’t have anyone lined up yet,” he said. “I’m excited for when that happens, so we can jump right back in.”
