Violent Soho Members Surprise Audience with Reunion Announcement Alongside Mark Hoppus at Sydney Opera House

Violent Soho’s lead singer Luke Boerdam and guitarist James Tidswell took the stage on March 21 at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall alongside Mark Hoppus. Hoppus announced that the band is ending their four-year hiatus. He played with Boerdam and Tidswell during his Fahrenheit-182 memoir tour. “I wasn’t joking, by the way, they really are getting back together,” Hoppus said.

This performance was the first time Boerdam and Tidswell had been on stage since their last show on September 10, 2022, at the Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane. After their set, neither musician spoke to the audience, and Violent Soho has not made an official statement about their return.

Formed in 2004, Violent Soho became one of Australia’s top bands. They went on hiatus in 2022 after nearly 20 years together. This month, they are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their fourth album, WACO, which is available in a limited-edition vinyl pressing.

“When we made WACO, we weren’t thinking about anniversaries or legacy. We just wanted to capture where the band was after years of touring and the success of Hungry Ghost,” Hoppus shared. “We created some awesome memories in the studio and really tried to push our sound further.”

WACO debuted in March 2016 and reached No. 1 on the charts, with all six singles making the Hottest 100 that year. Tracks like “Viceroy” were featured on the album. Violent Soho won ARIA Awards for Best Rock Album and Best Group. Hoppus will finish his speaking tour in Auckland soon. Stay tuned for more updates on Violent Soho!
