Courtney Barnett overcomes writer’s block with her ‘joyful’ new album, ‘Creature of Habit’.

Courtney Barnett is set to release her new album, *Creature of Habit*, this Friday. Known for her clever lyrics, Barnett faced a tough challenge with writer’s block while creating this album. “I felt like I had forgotten how to write a song,” she admits. It took her some time to get back into the groove.

The theme of patience is prominent in the album. In the upbeat opening track, “Stay in Your Lane,” she asks listeners to “please be patient.” This idea reappears in another song called “Mostly Patient.” Barnett explains, “I was struggling a little bit with the lyrics and finishing songs. That idea of patience kept popping up.”

To overcome her block, Barnett made a commitment to write a new song every morning. While some tracks touch on her struggles, she believes *Creature of Habit* doesn’t feel heavy. “Once I got past all the struggle, I was really proud of it … it feels really joyful,” she says.

Fans can also expect some classic Barnett wordplay. In “Mostly Patient,” she sings, “Outside it’s raining, precipitating,” a nod to a phrase her dad used to say. “He thought it was funny,” she shares. “It was just this kind of joke to myself, but it fit really well.”

Get ready for *Creature of Habit*—it promises to be a mix of joy and clever lyrics that fans love!
