Gigi Perez has just dropped a cover of Green Day’s classic “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).” This new version is part of Hollister’s graduation season campaign, keeping the song alive as a graduation favorite, even though it was originally written about a breakup.
The cover comes with a music video on YouTube. It features seniors reflecting on their last days of high school, mixed with shots of Perez playing her acoustic guitar. The video starts with Perez listening to a cassette tape of the song’s famous opening guitar line, which Billie Joe Armstrong famously fumbled in the original. Unlike Armstrong, Perez skips the f-word.
In a statement, Perez shared her excitement about the project. “I’m deeply nostalgic, and thinking about my own senior year, the impact Green Day has had on me, and my connection with Hollister made reimagining a song that’s so important to me a really special experience,” she said.
Fans can catch Perez performing at Coachella in April. After that, she will hit the road as the opening act for Noah Kahan’s tour in June. Keep an eye out for her new music and live shows!
