Jimmy Page Shares Early Demo of ‘Ten Years Gone’ from ‘Physical Graffiti’
Jimmy Page has just released an early home demo of “Ten Years Gone,” a track from Led Zeppelin’s classic album, Physical Graffiti. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the album, and Page wanted to give fans a glimpse into its creation.
On Instagram, Page shared that the demo was recorded at his studio in Plumpton Place. He wrote, “As a footnote to Physical Graffiti, I thought you might like to hear the original home demo of a piece of music that was going to surface as Ten Years Gone.” He explained that he presented this rough mix to the band at Headley Grange, where Robert Plant added some amazing lyrics, leading to the final version of the song.
Physical Graffiti, released on February 24, 1975, was Led Zeppelin’s sixth studio album. It was a double album and the first released under their own label, Swan Song Records. The album was a huge success, spending six weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and also topping the charts in the U.K. and Canada. It was the first album to go Platinum based on preorders alone and has since been certified 16-times Platinum in the U.S.
Fans of Led Zeppelin can now enjoy this early glimpse into the making of one of their most beloved songs.
