Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley has kicked off a new video series focused on his guitar collection. The first episode is now available on YouTube and features a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Burst, which he has named Lazarus. Whibley recently added this guitar to his collection.
The video shares that at one point, someone painted the guitar red. It was later restored to its original Sunburst finish, which is how it earned the name Lazarus. In the episode, Whibley talks about how the story of this guitar resonates with his own journey of starting over. “I felt a connection to this guitar, I felt like this guitar is me, I am this guitar,” he says. “Lazarus is my story, I need to be the one to write the next chapters with this thing.”
Sum 41 wrapped up their farewell tour in 2025, supporting their final album, Heaven :x: Hell, released in 2024. Whibley also published a memoir titled Walking Disaster in 2024 and has since launched a clothing brand.
