This Thursday marks the 50th anniversary of the Ramones’ self-titled debut album, and fans can look forward to a yearlong celebration. One highlight will be the world premiere of the only authorized exhibition dedicated to the Ramones at The Punk Rock Museum in Las Vegas on July 4. This exhibit, organized with Linda Ramone, the wife of the late Johnny Ramone, will feature performances, artist talks, and interactive experiences. It aims to connect fans with the Ramones’ legacy and their impact on music, art, and culture.
Throughout the year, Rhino will also release new physical albums and reissues of Ramones music. Fans can check out newly remastered videos for songs like “I Wanna Be Sedated,” “Rock N Roll High School,” and “Sheena Is a Punk Rocker” on the Ramones’ official YouTube page.
The Ramones album was released on April 23, 1976, and recorded in just one week. It opened with the iconic track “Blitzkrieg Bop.” Although it only reached #111 on the Billboard charts, the album received critical acclaim and is now regarded as one of the most influential punk records in the U.S. It has also made it onto several best-of lists, including Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
