One doctor doesn’t mind Dave Grohl’s pre-show ritual, though others could.

Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters has a unique preshow routine that seems to be working for him. In a recent podcast interview, he shared that he once visited a doctor to check on his vocal cords. To his surprise, everything looked good. The doctor asked if Grohl did any vocal warm-ups, to which he replied no. Instead, he described his preshow habits.

“An hour before the show, I open a beer and start drinking it,” Grohl said. He also mentioned taking an Advil for his aches and pains. After finishing one beer, he opens another and might have a group shot with the band. As the showtime approaches, he grabs one last beer and shot before hitting the stage.

While some doctors might raise an eyebrow at this routine, Grohl’s vocal cord doctor had a different take. “Just don’t change what you’re doing, it’s working,” the doctor told him.

Fans can expect to see Grohl stick to this routine as the Foo Fighters prepare to tour in support of their new album, *Your Favorite Toy*, which drops on Friday. They have a special show in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on April 28, followed by performances at the Welcome to Rockville and BottleRock Napa festivals in May. A full North American stadium tour kicks off in August.
