Zakk Wylde has shared insights about the final track on Black Label Society’s new album, “Engines of Demolition.” The song, titled “Ozzy’s Song,” is a heartfelt tribute to his former boss, Ozzy Osbourne. Wylde spoke about writing the song after a significant moment in his life.
He recalled, “We laid Ozzy to rest, and then I flew back out and we played Jones Beach. That was the first Pantera show after laying Ozzy to rest.” He remembered the last time he performed with Ozzy at that venue, where the crowd was soaked from the rain.
After the Pantera celebration, Wylde found inspiration at home while looking through one of Ozzy’s books. He wrote the lyrics for “Ozzy’s Song” in his library. His girlfriend played a key role in naming the track. She kept asking him to play “Ozzy’s song” while they were driving, which led him to officially name it that.
Wylde felt it was essential to end the album with this tribute. The music video for the song features footage and photos of Ozzy throughout the years. Wylde emphasized how much Ozzy meant to fans, saying, “Ozzy was such a huge part of so many people’s lives and touched them in a positive way.” This connection is what made Ozzy truly special.
