Matt Cameron, the drummer from Soundgarden, recently took on a new challenge by playing along to Bad Omens’ song “Just Pretend.” This performance was part of Drumeo’s “For the First Time” series on YouTube, where drummers create their own parts to songs they’ve never heard before. Cameron, who left Pearl Jam in 2025 after 27 years, had never heard “Just Pretend,” which has topped both the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay and Alternative Airplay charts.
After a few attempts, Cameron nailed the song, showcasing his signature tom grooves that fans of Soundgarden will recognize. He expressed his excitement about Bad Omens, saying, “Bad Omens f rules. It’s a good song, man.” At the end of the video, Bad Omens’ drummer, Nick Folio, praised Cameron’s performance, calling it “excellent.”
Cameron is still active in music and will perform at Tom Morello’s Power to the People festival in October. Meanwhile, Pearl Jam is set to introduce their new drummer during their headlining set at Eddie Vedder’s Ohana Festival in September. Bad Omens will also be headlining the Inkcarceration festival in Ohio this July.
