Oliver Tree has passed away at the age of 32. He was one of six people killed in a helicopter crash in Brazil, as reported by Rio de Janeiro’s federal police.
Tree started his music career in 2010 and gained fame with his 2018 EP, Alien Boy, which features the RIAA Platinum-certified title track. His debut album, Ugly Is Beautiful, was released in 2020 and included hits like “Alien Boy” and “Hurt,” which reached the top five on the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart. The deluxe version of the album introduced “Life Goes On,” marking Tree’s first crossover success on the Billboard Hot 100.
Known for his unique bowl haircut and quirky personality, Tree often showcased his playful side in music videos. He frequently joked about quitting music, only to surprise fans with new releases. Over the years, he released three more albums: Cowboy Tears in 2022, Alone in a Crowd in 2023, and Love You Madly Hate You Badly in 2026. The latter was recorded in various locations across seven continents and 80 countries.
Singer Melanie Martinez, who was in a relationship with Tree, shared her grief on Instagram, saying, “Been an absolute wreck today. Rest in peace Oliver. I know you’re making the angels giggle. I’ll be here wondering what stunt and creative project you’re scheming up in heaven.
