McDonald’s Is Bringing Back a Fan-Favorite Dessert for America’s 250th Birthday

If you remember when McDonald’s apple pies were hot and crispy, you’re in for a treat. The fast-food chain is bringing back its original Fried Apple Pie for a limited time, marking its first nationwide return in over 30 years. Starting June 23, you can find this nostalgic dessert at participating McDonald’s locations.

This version features a flaky fried crust filled with warm apple filling made from American-grown apples. The Fried Apple Pie has a special place in McDonald’s history. It was created by Tennessee franchise owner Litton Cochran in the late 1960s and quickly became a favorite. However, it was phased out in 1992 when the company switched to a baked version.

Eric Cochran, a McDonald’s owner/operator and Litton’s grandson, said, “Bringing the Fried Apple Pie back for fans this summer to celebrate America’s 250th just feels right.” To celebrate the return, McDonald’s is also setting up a 35-foot Fried Apple Pie roadside attraction along historic Route 66 in Joliet, Illinois. This installation will be open from June 23 to July 4 and will offer photo ops, giveaways, and Route 66-themed souvenirs.

Fans are buzzing with excitement online. Many longtime customers say the fried version is more flavorful and nostalgic than the baked pie. Some are even hoping for a permanent return. If you’ve never tried the original Fried Apple Pie, this summer is your chance to find out why so many McDonald’s fans have been craving it. Just remember, it’s only here for a limited time!
