A collection of Johnny Marr’s personal guitars will be on display in New York City before they are auctioned off in London. The exhibit, titled “Marr’s Guitars: The Johnny Marr Collection,” opens to the public on Thursday and runs until July 1. After that, the guitars will head to London for a presale exhibition from September 9 to 16, leading up to the auction on September 17.
The collection features guitars that Marr used with The Smiths, as well as on his solo projects and the James Bond theme “No Time to Die,” which he recorded with Billie Eilish. Marr expressed his love for guitars, saying, “I have loved guitars for as long as I can remember, since the first one I got at the age of five.” He added that each guitar has helped him grow as a musician and create new music.
Marr mentioned that while it is bittersweet to part with these instruments, he hopes they will find new owners who will appreciate them. He also plans to donate 100% of the hammer price from ten lots to The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and The National Autistic Society.
In addition to the guitar collection, Marr will release a new album titled “The Age of Everything” on October 2, with the lead single “Spin” already available.
