A cassette tape containing Chris Martin’s rendition of a James Bond theme song is available for bidding in an auction.

A cassette tape with a demo of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin singing a song called “The World Is Not Enough” is up for auction. Martin recorded the track as an attempt at a theme for the 1999 James Bond film of the same name.

The tape is an original Parlophone reference cassette and features a stripped-back acoustic and vocal demo. It shows how the song sounded before any studio production. The final Bond theme was recorded by Garbage, so this version offers a different take.

The cassette comes from the archive of producer Chris Allison, who worked with Coldplay in their early days. The auction site says this recording has not been commercially released or widely circulated. It’s not known if the demo was ever submitted for the film.

The auction runs through July 19 on WaxPoetics.com.

Martin told NME in 2021 that Coldplay has tried to write Bond themes for about 20 years but never sent them in. “We have Bond themes for about five movies,” he said, “but they’re not very good, to be honest.
