Ozzy Osbourne died on July 22, 2025. He was 76.
Born John Michael Osbourne on Dec. 3, 1948, he became the Prince of Darkness. He helped shape heavy metal as Black Sabbath’s singer. The band included guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward.
Ozzy left Black Sabbath in 1979 and launched a solo career. His solo hits include “Crazy Train” and “Mama, I’m Coming Home.” He reunited with Sabbath several times, including their farewell tour that ended in 2017.
Ozzy reached a wider audience with the reality show The Osbournes. The show starred his wife Sharon and their children Kelly and Jack.
He also made headlines with wild onstage moments, like biting the head off a bat in 1982. Musicians such as Lzzy Hale say they were inspired by his attitude. She praised his love of life and constant hunger for what came next.
Ozzy faced health problems in later years and toured less. He did give a final solo show and played with the original Sabbath lineup at the Back to the Beginning concert two weeks before he died.
His music and showmanship left a huge mark on rock and metal. Fans and fellow artists remember him for his voice, his stage presence, and the way he lived loud. Long live the Prince of Darkness.
