Thursday night brought two surprise rock star moments.
In Chicago, Jack White invited Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson on stage. Robinson sang lead while White tore into the Free song “I’m a Mover.” A clip of the performance is on White’s Instagram.
In San Diego, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong was playing with his side project, The Coverups, when Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson turned up unannounced. Dickinson joined them for “All the Young Dudes,” the Mott the Hoople song written by David Bowie. Dickinson had previously recorded his own take on the song for his 1990 solo album Tattooed Millionaire.
