Portugal. The Man’s frontman John Gourley is looking back at the band’s album In the Mountain in the Cloud and ahead to a big tour with Muse.
Gourley says mixer Andy Wallace helped pull the album’s many layers together. He calls it the “most clearly Portugal. The Man album.” “That feels like Portugal. The Man to me,” he says.
The band is marking 15 years of In the Mountain in the Cloud. At the same time, they’re about to start a U.S. tour supporting Muse. The run begins Monday in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Gourley says he’s excited to play with Muse. “I’m excited to see the musicianship and the energy,” he says. He’s curious about those crowds.
For Portugal. The Man’s own set, Gourley wants more chaos and prog vibes. “I really wanna be in this proggy, fun space again,” he says.
