The Smashing Pumpkins will start their Rats in a Cage tour in September. Each show will have two sets. The first set is the full 1995 album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, honoring its 30th anniversary. The second set will span their career.
Mellon Collie is RIAA Diamond-certified and includes hits like “1979,” “Tonight, Tonight,” “Zero” and “Bullet with Butterfly Wings.” That last song contains the lyric that inspired the tour title.
Frontman Billy Corgan says the shows will be different. “Some people will take the journey and other people will think, ‘What are they doing? Because I came here to celebrate, and they’re taking me through a funeral,'” he said.
The Rats in a Cage tour opens Sept. 30 in Columbus, Ohio.
