Original Slipknot vocalist Anders Colsefni has spoken about his time with the band, stating that he has no regrets about leaving before the group achieved international commercial success. In an interview with The Phase Remains The Same, Colsefni recalled Slipknot’s early days writing music packed inside his Des Moines duplex basement, where they recorded the 1996 independently released demo album Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.
Corey Taylor joined the band in 1997 to take over vocal duties, and the group later signed to Roadrunner Records before releasing their self-titled debut album in 1999. Colsefni expressed peace with how events unfolded, stating he realized he was one of many original singers in rock who was not the person to bring their band to global fame, adding that he was fine with bringing in a different singer to help the local Iowa group make history.
