Musicians Gather in Los Angeles to Celebrate 50 Years of The Ramones

Billy Idol joined members of Green Day, Blink-182, and Rancid for a tribute event at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

On Sunday, August 30, musicians gathered at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles to commemorate the 50th anniversary of The Ramones’ self-titled debut album. The event featured a performance by a newly formed supergroup named The Cretin Family, consisting of Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, Rancid’s Tim Armstrong, and former Ramones bassist C.J. Ramone.

Billy Idol made a surprise appearance during the show, joining The Cretin Family onstage to perform The Ramones’ songs “Beat on the Brat” and “Blitzkrieg Bop,” alongside “Ready Steady Go” by his former band Generation X. During the event, Barker called The Ramones “the blueprint” for punk rock, while Billie Joe Armstrong and Tim Armstrong also spoke about the band’s lasting legacy and influence.
