John Carpenter Says He Would Direct a Metallica Music Video

The veteran horror filmmaker expressed his admiration for the heavy metal band in a recent interview.

Director John Carpenter revealed in an interview with Metal Hammer that he would jump at the chance to direct a music video for Metallica if asked. The 78-year-old filmmaker behind Halloween and The Thing became a fan of the band after his children introduced him to “Enter Sandman” from their 1991 self-titled album. Carpenter, who has not directed a feature film since 2010’s The Ward, has remained active in music, recently releasing his metal-inspired album Cathedral in August and previously composing the opening credits score for the 2022 Foo Fighters film Studio 666.

Carpenter’s comments arrive ahead of Metallica’s residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas, which begins Oct. 1 and runs through March 13 following the conclusion of the band’s three-year M72 world tour.
