The former drummer says he is open to reviving the band with a female vocalist, though no official comeback is planned.
Former Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum stated he would be open to reforming the rock supergroup with Lzzy Hale on lead vocals. Expressing enthusiasm for bringing female energy to the lineup, Sorum praised Hale’s singing and recalled that Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler previously compared her vocals to Tina Turner. While Sorum remarked that he would participate and suggested contacting former bandmates Slash and Duff McKagan, no official reunion has been announced, and no other musicians have committed to the idea.
Velvet Revolver originally formed in 2002 with Sorum, Slash, McKagan, guitarist Dave Kushner, and late frontman Scott Weiland. The band released two albums, including their 2004 debut Contraband, which featured the Grammy-winning single “Slither.” Following Weiland’s departure in 2008 and a brief one-off performance at a 2012 Los Angeles tribute concert, the group remained inactive prior to Weiland’s death in December 2015.
