Skillet frontman John Cooper recently addressed long-standing criticism surrounding the Christian rock band during an appearance on The White House Pod – Dare To Dream, hosted by David A.R. White. Discussing claims from some Christian groups who consider hard rock spiritually dangerous or demonic, Cooper stated that he has stopped trying to persuade people who fundamentally object to the genre. He noted that Skillet has often faced conflicting critiques, with listeners calling the band either “too heavy” or not heavy enough, as well as “too spiritual” or not spiritual enough.
Cooper explained that he chooses to remain authentic rather than trying to satisfy competing expectations, though he remains open to good-faith discussions. The comments come as Skillet prepares to release a new independent EP, After The Storm, on October 9. The project was produced by Sleep Theory’s David Cowell alongside Skillet’s Korey Cooper.
