The drummer endorsed the Halestorm vocalist during a radio interview, though no formal invitation has been extended.
Former Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum shared during a recent radio show that he would be open to a Velvet Revolver reunion featuring Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale on lead vocals. Sorum cited Hale’s performance of Bad Company’s “Shooting Star” at the Sound & Vision Awards in Palm Springs in March as the catalyst for the idea, recalling that Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler praised her singing at the event. Sorum noted he would be willing to participate, though he has not spoken to former bandmates Slash or Duff McKagan about the concept.
Neither Slash nor McKagan has publicly addressed the proposal, and Hale has not been formally asked to join the band. Velvet Revolver formed in 2002 and released two studio albums, 2004’s Contraband and 2007’s Libertad, before parting ways with original lead vocalist Scott Weiland in April 2008. Weiland later passed away in December 2015. The group previously recorded ten demo tracks with Corey Taylor during an earlier search for a new singer, though Slash ultimately decided against pursuing that direction.
