Sammy Hagar Interview Revisited for His 79th Birthday

A June 2025 conversation with WMMR’s Pierre Robert highlighted Hagar’s early career with Montrose, his Van Halen memories, and his Las Vegas residency.

In celebration of Sammy Hagar turning 79 on October 13, 2026, radio station WMMR revisited a June 25, 2025 interview between the rocker and host Pierre Robert. The conversation covered Hagar’s early music career prior to joining Montrose—including interest from Bay Area bands Crossfire and Thunderstick—as well as stories from his time with Montrose, such as accidentally striking bassist Bill Church with a microphone stand during a performance of “Space Station No. 5” at Winterland.

The interview also focused on Hagar’s career with Van Halen and his tribute song to Eddie Van Halen, “Encore. Thank You. Goodnight.” Hagar revealed that the track incorporates a crowd chant from the band’s final 1995 show in Hawaii. Additionally, Hagar discussed his Las Vegas residency, noting how changing his setlists night to night allowed him to revisit different eras of his musical history.
