Philadelphia celebrates First Thanksgiving Day Parade: 1920, honoring the city’s claim to the nation’s first Thanksgiving Day Parade, with a festive “Firstival.” It centers on the new #1 sculpture by local narrative artist Caresh Walker, owner of SoulPurl 77 Design. The piece is awash in autumn colors and draws on the artist’s love of storytelling, honoring community, homecoming, and the start of a new season. Walker’s background in stained glass, screen printing, and collage shapes this vibrant tribute, capturing the joy of marching bands and giant balloons parading down the parkway.

Family Art Day at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts invites young artists and their grown-ups to create side by side. This session draws inspiration from Winslow Homer’s “The Fox Hunt,” a highlight of the museum’s “A Nation of Artists” exhibition. Families will craft a “Fox Hunt Theater Book,” a layered, pop-up-style diorama that brings the famous painting to life, and take it home. Everyone is welcome, and the youngest participants can team up with a family member. Families can also explore the galleries for an afternoon of discovery, creativity, and hands-on fun.
