Ahead of 10th anniversary reissue of his debut album InnerSpeaker tomorrow, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker has shared a new short film that captures the making of his career-making album.
Titled InnerSpeaker Memories, the short film features never-before-seen footage from the recording of InnerSpeaker at the idyllic Wave House Studio in Western Australia. Recorded in 2009 in Western Australia, InnerSpeaker was Parker’s first full-length missive and an explosive invitation into what would become his inimitable psych-tinged world.
Shot by Matt Sav and edited by Alex Haygarth, the film captures the studio wizard at work, as he tools, tweaks, and experiments on what would become Innerspeaker.
Parker originally announced the deluxe reissue of his 2010 album in November of last year, and now the deluxe, 4LP reissue has finally arrived.
The 4-LP collection includes new mixes of “Alter Ego” and “Runway, Houses, City, Clouds,” instrumentals of “Why Won’t You Make Up Your Mind” and “It Is Not Meant To Be,” a variety of demo tracks, plus the previously-unheard, side-long “Wave House Live Jam.”
In addition to the expanded audio, the reissue also boasts a collage of album sketches and a deluxe 40-page booklet.
Upon original release, InnerSpeaker topped almost every critic’s list including Rolling Stone’s Album of the Year. It also received multiple ARIA Award nominations and won Australian Album of the Year at the J Awards.
To mark the anniversary, Parker has also launched new InnerSpeaker merch in his official store and will be performing on NPR World Cafe tomorrow on March 26, most likely playing some InnerSpeaker cuts.
More recently, Parker has been promoting and performing music from his bestselling and Grammy-nominated album, The Slow Rush, released in 2020. He also gave a track-by-track breakdown of the album with Australian artist and radio announcer Linda Marigliano, now available on Spotify.
While Tame Impala’s tour and festival dates got delayed with the pandemic, he was recently announced as one of the headlining acts at the Outside Lands Festival, returning to San Francisco’s famed Golden Gate Park this Halloween.
