Wolfgang Van Halen Played the ‘Frankenstrat’ on His New Album

Wolfgang Van Halen has a special guest on the upcoming self-titled debut album for Mammoth WVH, but it’s not another musician.

Wolfgang was asked in a new interview with Total Guitar if he used any of the gear from his late father, Eddie Van Halen. Turns out, he used one very iconic piece of gear revealing, “Yeah, a handful of it. I played the original Frankenstein on the solo on ‘Mammoth’ and on ‘Feel.’”

Wolfgang added, “You feel the history. It’s kind of terrifying holding it, just because arguably it is the most famous guitar in musical history. It’s definitely quite the thing to hold it.”

Oddly enough, the only person who didn’t think the guitar was a priceless artifact was the man who created it.

Wolfgang recalled, “When we were pulling it out of its safe, Dad picked it up and he was just noodling with it for a second. He’s like ‘Yeah, feels about the same’ and he tossed it onto the couch. Everyone just gasped when he did that. To Dad, it’s just a little piece of junk that he built himself, but to us it’s the most famous thing in the world.”

Mammoth WVH comes out June 11 and is available for pre-sale/pre-save on major digital platforms here. Meanwhile, physical copies and album merch are available at WolfgangVanHalen.Shop.MusicToday.com.
