New Country Accolade For Trisha Yearwood’s ‘She’s In Love With The Boy’

Trisha Yearwood’s debut hit of 1991, the country evergreen “She’s In Love With The Boy,” has been named the most listened-to country song by a female artist in the history of MRC Data.

The company tracks the radio activity that fuels Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart and has given the song, written by John Ims, the new distinction. Yearwood was given the news on stage at the Grand Ole Opry on Tuesday night (August 3).

Speaking backstage at the Opry, she said: “When people come to a show, I see these girls singing ‘She’s In Love With the Boy’ and they’re like 15. I’m thinking, ‘How do you know this song?!’ But now learning that it’s been heard that many times – it’s just such an honor.”

In the 30 years since that debut hit, Yearwood has become a doyenne among country artists, amassing four further No.1 hits (“XXX’s And OOO’s (An American Girl), “Thinkin’ About You,” “Believe Me Baby (I Lied),” and “A Perfect Love” and countless other Top 10 singles. She has recorded a new version of “She’s In Love With the Boy” for the deluxe edition of her Every Girl album, which is released on August 13.

The original song spent two weeks atop the country chart in August 1991, and 20 on the list overall, to get Yearwood’s major label career on MCA Nashville off to a flying start. She followed it with three more Top 10 hits from the same, self-titled album: “Like We Never Had a Broken Heart,” “That’s What I Like About You,” and “The Woman Before Me.”

Also as part of her latest Grand Ole Opry appearance, Yearwood teamed up on stage with Carly Pearce for a duet version of Trisha’s 1997 signature “How Do I Live,” before she inducted Pearce as the newest member of the Opry. The show is due to air on Circle Television on August 14.
