Lorde Shares Rooftop Performance Of ‘Stoned At The Nail Salon’ With Jack Antonoff

Lorde continues her media blitz ahead of her highly-anticipated sophomore album, Solar Power, set for release on August 20th.

The latest clip sees the New Zealand singer-songwriter performing her latest single, “Stoned at the Nail Salon,” on the rooftop of the famed Electric Lady Studios in New York City with her frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff.

This marks the second rooftop set from the duo, following their rooftop performance of “Solar Power,” on a much windier day atop Electric Lady Studios.

The sun-dappled, intimate performance sees the duo with just an electric guitar and a microphone, as Lorde gives an emotive performance of the folksy single.

Ever the lyrical wit, Lorde delivers some of her best work yet on “Stoned,” as she sings, “Got a wishbone drying on the windowsill in my kitchen/Just in case I wake up and realize I’ve chosen wrong.”

Lorde shared insight into the new track, when it made its debut on July 21, saying:

“This song is sort of a rumination on getting older, settling into domesticity, and questioning if you’ve made the right decisions. I think lots of people start asking those questions of themselves around my age, and it was super comforting to me writing them down, hoping they’d resonate with others too. I used this song as a dumping ground for so many thoughts…”

The alt-pop singer first debuted the track on Late Night with Seth Meyers, when she did a full show takeover and joined Meyers for a very special episode of Seth’s signature “Day Drinking” segment.

She also recently appeared on the popular web series Hot Ones, where she entered the hot seat (literally and figuratively) as she answered questions about her new album and took on a series of increasingly spicy chicken wings.

“I basically thought of the album as a sun worship album,” Lorde said of Solar Power on the show. “I’m not religious in any way, but my experiences in nature the last couple of years were as close to what I had experienced as religion, so it was like a sort of devotional record for me.”

Solar Power is out on August 20 and available for pre-order.
