Modern country star Sam Hunt has today (9) released his new song “23.” A warm reflection on a past relationship, the song was written by Hunt with Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne, and Chris LaCorte, who also produced it.
The artwork for the song uses an early photo of his wife, Hannah’s, aunt and uncle when they were a young couple. The new release includes such lyrics as “You’ll always have long blond hair, you’ll always be Memphis queen, you’ll always be my first time in New Orleans/No matter where I go, no matter what I do, I’ll never be 23 with anyone but you.
“You can marry who you want, go back to Tennessee, but you’ll never be 23 with anyone but me/We’ll always have Folly beach, we’ll always have delta nights, we’ll always be in-between real love and real life.” Hunt and his band recently played a stripped-down version of “23” at a session at Ocean Way studio in Nashville.
“23” is Hunt’s first new track since last year’s chart-topping Southside, which topped the country charts and debuted at No.5 on the all-genre Billboard 200. It produced five singles, most of which appeared before the album itself, and included the nine-times-platinum country mega-hit “Body Like A Back Road” and the Top 3 hits “Kinfolks,” “Hard To Forget,” and “Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90’s.”
Hunt is currently on tour in the US, with a show tonight (9) at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL. He plays the Greenville Country Music Festival in Simpsonville, SC, on Saturday. Hunt is also on the star-packed bill for the two-day iHeartRadio Music Festival 2021 on September 18. That day’s line-up also features J. Cole, Dua Lipa, FINNEAS, Nelly, Conan Gray, 24kGoldn, Olivia Rodrigo, Dababy, Yungblud, Saweetie, Tate McRae, and fellow country stars Russell Dickerson, and Gabby Barrett.
