Machine Gun Kelly Throws Shade at Slipknot During Festival Performance

Machine Gun Kelly not-so-subtly took some shots at Slipknot last night (September 19) during his set at Riot Fest in Chicago.

MGK and Slipknot were playing their sets at the same time on different stages at the festival, and per Rolling Stone, the rapper-turned-rocker said to the crowd, “Hey, you want to know what I’m really happy that I’m not doing? Being 50 years old wearing a f—ing weird mask on a f—ing stage, talking s—. So, anyway, what’s everyone’s favorite candy? Reece’s Pieces?”

MGK would also say later during his set, “Turn the lights up. Let me see who chose to be here instead of with all the old weird dudes with masks.”

This shade towards Slipknot didn’t necessarily come out of nowhere, and it may likely be a response to the metal band’s frontman, Corey Taylor. Back in February, Taylor sounded off in an appearance on Cutter’s Rockcast about his dislike of some new rock acts saying, “…The ones that really frustrate me are the ones that they take something that’s been around forever and then just basically rework it and call it new – even though it’s completely derivative. You know the band they’re ripping off – they’re not even trying to rip off a bunch of bands; they’re ripping off one band.”

He then went on to say, “I [hate] the artists who failed in one genre and decided to go rock – and I think he knows who he is. But that’s another story. I’m the worst. And I hate everything. And people are used to that with me, though.”

Whether Taylor or Slipknot will respond is currently unknown, but if MGK was hoping to attract some Maggots, he’s going about it in the worst way possible.
