Sea Girls have shared a rousing new single, “Again Again,” giving another preview of what to expect from their forthcoming second album, Homesick.
The track follows “Sick,” which kicked off the acclaimed London indie band’s new era in August.
In a statement, frontman Henry Camamile said “Again Again” dealt with “trying to personify the intensity and rush of life’s excesses [and] accepting the inevitability of it and the hatred in being boring.” “It’s one of the last songs I wrote for the new album, ruminating on my teenage years,” he added.
The song surges on skyscraping guitar riffs while Camamile sings: “I feel bad in the morning, but I hate being boring/So come round, I’ll lose my friends/Again, again, again, again.”
Homesick, the follow-up to Sea Girls’ 2020 debut album Open Up Your Head, will be released on January 14, 2022. It was produced by Hundred Reasons guitarist and singer Larry Hibbitt, while renowned producer Jacknife Lee (The Killers, R.E.M., U2) also contributed to the record’s production. Jonny Coffer (Panic! At The Disco, Ellie Goulding) and Cass Lowe (Chance The Rapper, Charli XCX) also worked on the record.
“Imagine us locked down in the studio in rainy Brixton working with the producers remotely on the album in California’s Topanga Canyon,” Camamile said of making Homesick. “That clashing of worlds is the sound of this record, the DNA. Making an album this way, remotely and 5000 miles apart, was a crazy idea and shouldn’t have worked, but it did.”
The album was inspired by the frontman’s return to his childhood home in Lincolnshire in the midst of the pandemic, where he found himself having to address and reflect on events from his past that were both good and bad.
Sea Girls’ debut album Open Up Your Head marked them out as one of the UK’s most exciting new bands and saw them achieve a Top Three placing in the Official UK Albums Chart.
Renowned for their raucous live shows, the band are currently midway through their rescheduled sold-out UK Academy tour which culminates with their biggest headline show to date at a sold-out Brixton Academy.
Homesick is set for release on January 14, 2022, and is available for pre-order.
