If you’re still suffering from a Nashville-sized hole in your small screen entertainment, the new Fox series Monarch is here to fill the void.

Susan Sarandon stars as the matriarch of a multigenerational country music dynasty, or the “first family of country music,” as her character states in the new series trailer.

Fox unveiled initial footage of the drama series, which also stars Trace Adkins, Anna Friel, and singer Beth Ditto as members of the Roman family, during Game 2 of the 2021 World Series.

Similar to the hit series Empire, Monarch takes a dramatic approach to a family struggling to maintain its reign in the music industry.

Created by Melissa London Hilfers, the series stars Sarandon as Dottie Cantrell Roman, Adkins as her husband Albie Roman, and Beth Ditto as Gigi Taylor-Roman. Rounding out the cast is Josh Sasse, Meagan Holder, Martha Migareda, Emma Milani, Iñigio Pasual, Eva Amurri, and Adam Croasdell.

Hilfers will write and exec produce Monarch, while Instinct creator and Royal Pains executive producer Michael Rauch will serve as showrunner and exec producer, Deadline reports. The musical drama series is set to premiere on January 30, 2022, on Fox.

The isn’t the first time the country star Adkins has graced the silver screen, with numerous film credits to his name including a starring role in the 2019 western film, The Outsider, and another western called Hickok, co-starring Luke Hemsworth.

Along with releasing his new album, The Way I Wanna Go, Adkin’s early-aughts hit “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” has blown up on TikTok. With over 45,000 video creations, the country singer himself jumped on the trend and posted a video to his own TikTok account, much to the delight of his fans.

Adkins is currently on his US tour, with upcoming dates in December 2021, all the way through the summer of 2022.
