San Francisco experimental metal act Gürschach has released their new Hypnotic Disasters – EP January 14! Four years after their debut album Dark Matterthis new offering from the band features three all-new original tracks. Hypnotic Disasters will also include Gürschach’s acclaimed re-imagining of Metallica’s “St. Anger” released and their newly released cover of Slayer’s “Dead Skin Mask“, which were previously streaming exclusives.
When COVID-19 put a lot of their initial touring and studio plans on hold, Gürschach sought to use their newfound time indoors to write new music, picking the best of the best for a new release. The band aimed to work on new music safely during the pandemic, leading this new EP to be primarily self-recorded at home, with electronic drums, direct instrument signals, and vocals recorded in their bedrooms. Despite this, the release does not evoke the feeling of low production, as the tracks were mixed by the likes of Ulrich Wild (Deftones, Dethklok, Pantera), Zach Ohren (Carnifex, Exmortus, Machine Head), and Nick Botelho (Flub, Kinnefret, The King Must Die). In thisHypnotic Disasters can be seen as a step forward in the band’s production, despite the global pandemic!
With these new songs, Gürschach challenges their stylistic capabilities, and write songs unlike their previous material. Originally a thrash band, the group channeled darker influences, as well as progressive, alternative, and industrial, while writing the EP’s original tracks. Gürschach works in new elements in Hypnotic Disasters, utilizing electronic drums, keyboards, synthesizers, and samples. But while these new elements are there, the band maintains its thrash roots and stylings, ensuring that their new music will feel fresh, but familiar to old fans. In including the “St. Anger” and “Dead Skin Mask” covers, Hypnotic Disasters will give fans the opportunity to experience the tracks on all platforms! “St. Anger” has recently surpassed 218K streams on Spotify and 183K views on YouTube.
The Hypnotic Disasters EP will be a limited release package meant to fund the band’s second full length album currently in production. The band also plans to hit the road soon to promote Hypnotic Disasters with an initial run of shows titled the “Is It Safe to Come Out?” Tour set to run from their hometown San Francisco to El Paso Texas, with detailed dates below.
