Sam Smith has shared a stripped-back version of their recent single “Love Me More,” along with a performance video filmed in Los Angeles.

The original version of the track was released last month and was the Grammy, BRIT, Golden Globe, and Academy Award-winning artist’s first single since 2020’s “The Lighthouse Keeper.”

“Love Me More (Acoustic)” removes the layers of the original, putting the focus on Smith’s emotional vocals, which are only backed up by sparse piano, percussion, and gentle backing vocals. “Have you ever felt like being somebody else?” They ask on the track. “Feeling like the mirror isn’t good for your health / Every day I’m trying not to hate myself / But lately it’s not hurting like it did before.

The performance video for the new acoustic take on the single was filmed at Los Angeles’ iconic Capitol Tower.

“Love Me More” finds Smith reuniting with their long-term collaborators Jimmy Napes and Stargate as they navigate self-love, self-discovery, and happiness.

Smith’s most recent studio album arrived in 2020 in the shape of Love Goes. That record peaked at No.2 on the UK’s Official Albums Chart in November of that year and featured the star’s Normani collaboration “Dancing With A Stranger,” Burna Boy duet “My Oasis,” plus “How Do You Sleep?” among others.

The British singer-songwriter scored the biggest selling debut album of the decade in the 2010s with 2014’s In The Lonely Hour. Since its release, the record has amassed over 33 million sales, totaling 227 million single sales and 40 billion streams across their career to date.

Meanwhile, earlier this month Smith was announced to be taking part in iHeartMedia’s Can’t Cancel Pride 2022: Proud AND Together fundraiser. Hosted by recording artist and actress JoJo Siwa at Los Angeles’ iHeartRadio Theater on June 14, the third-annual event will showcase the activism and the issues that continue to impact the LGBTQ+ community in 2022, as well as intersectional messages of spirit and strength.
