Mabel Teams Up With 24kGoldn On New Single ‘Overthinking’

Mabel has teamed up with 24kGoldn on her gleaming new single, “Overthinking.”

The track was produced by Stargate (Rihanna, Katy Perry) in LA and offers an escapist but unflinchingly honest snapshot of when club culture meets social anxiety. “Without you, I can’t feel the heat of the night,” Mabel sings on the song. “I burn all day without you/I can’t feel those butterflies.”

Tired of getting stuck/Wish that I could fast forward,” 24kGoldn adds. Later, he raps: “Paranoia, I got something spinning in my head.”

According to Mabel, “Overthinking” deals with “is about how quickly things can turn from thrilling to toxic.” “Many people suffering from mental health disorders self-medicate and I too went through a time when I turned to drugs to numb my feelings,” she explained in a press release. “I hope that anyone that may resonate with this song knows that after the darkness comes the light.”

“Overthinking” isn’t the first time the British pop star has worked with the San Francisco rapper. The pair previously collaborated, alongside Clean Bandit, on the 2020 Top 10 hit “Tick Tock.”

The new single previews a darker, more introspective side of her upcoming second album. The record will also feature the recent singles “Good Luck,” which distilled influences of house, heartbreak, and female solidarity into perfectly realized pop, and “Let Them Know,” an unapologetic anthem about dressing up with nowhere to go.

Mabel is set to appear at this year’s LooseFest, which will be held on July 30 and 31 in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. “We are delighted to add Mabel to our LooseFest 2022 lineup!” Dean Saunders, one of the festival’s co-founders, said earlier this month. “We absolutely love her new track “Good Luck” and we can’t wait for her to join us, on what is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated weekends of the year this summer!”
