Listen To Andrew Bird’s New Album ‘Inside Problems’

Andrew Bird has released his new album Inside Problems, a collection of 11 original songs that “transports listeners to a lush musical world” (NPR Music), in an exploration of the complex thoughts, questions, and middle-of-the-night obsessions swirling around in each of us.

Produced by Mike Viola, Bird and his four-piece band tracked the LP live and straight to tape with nearly no overdubs, resulting in his most rousing and visceral record yet. Arriving at another apex of his acclaimed and constantly evolving career, from cracking the Billboard Top 10 on Break It Yourself to earning his first Grammy nomination for My Finest Work Yet, making his professional acting debut in Fargo, and scoring films like Judd Apatow’s The Bubble and PBS’ Peabody-nominated Storm Lake, “Inside Problems tackles the demons that even Headspace can’t deter” (Document Journal).

On Inside Problems, Andrew Bird says: “From Orpheus to Icarus, depths to heights, and the thresholds in between. I’m interested in the moment when something becomes something else, when somewhere becomes somewhere else. That membrane that separates inside from outside. Retreating as we do in to the underlands, to molt our plumage, to exorcise our inside problems and emerge like newborn foals shaking, naked, squinting in the light. Don’t you know that I’m an irrepressible optimist working with a fatal flaw?”

Starting June 15 at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre, Andrew Bird will bring the music of Inside Problems to Outside Problems, his first tour in nearly three years. Co-headlined with Iron & Wine, the extensive run of more than 30 shows will stretch from coast to coast, and now includes a newly added leg of six dates across the Southern US.

Announced today, September and October will bring Bird and Iron & Wine to Austin’s Stubb’s, New Orleans’ Orpheum Theater and beyond, in addition to sold-out stops at Colorado’s Red Rocks, NYC’s Pier 17 and Chicago’s brand new Salt Shed this summer and fall, as well as performances at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and dozens of other storied venues with support from Allison Russell, Meshell Ndegeocello and Neko Case. $1 per ticket on the fall tour will go to gun violence prevention programs.
